Empowering Young Lives

AFK is a nonprofit organization with a primary mission to provide multi-disciplinary therapeutic services to children with neuromuscular disorders. Our second mission is to strive to improve the perspectives of children with disabilities by educating children, parents, school staff, and the general public regarding needs for modifications in daily living so these children can grow with dignity and less difficulties. AFK also takes pride in providing a quality swim program in our indoor heated pool. Our comprehensive approach includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, aquatic therapy, education, and family support, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive. 
We offer a nurturing swim program designed specifically for children with disabilities or typical abilities persons 6mo to adult in our indoors heated pool focusing on safety, skill development, and fun!

Comprehensive Therapeutic Services

AFK provides multi-disciplinary therapeutic services to all children with neuromuscular disorders or injuries so they may improve on fine and gross motor developments needed for functions of daily living, improve on balance and coordination, increase cardiovascular circulation and increase strength and flexibilities. AFK provides services to children from birth to age 18. However, if a child enters our program before age of 18, we will continue to provide therapeutic interventions for that client past the age of 18 as needed. Each child is assessed by our team to choreograph a concert of needed therapeutic services tailored to the needs of each child using a combination of physical therapy, occupational therapy, aquatic therapy, intensive physical therapy, acupuncture, adaptive swim and play therapy. AFK also provides limited wound care and splinting. Unlike adults, who can maintain their body length, children are expected to grow and hence splint/equipment may need to be adjusted frequently during growth spurts.

Services

Therapeutic Services
Specialized therapeutic services are tailored to the specific needs of each child. Therapy services available include physical therapy, aquatic therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, and adaptive swim.
Family Support
Guiding families through the challenges of rehabilitation, resources, and support. Providing Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) for children exploring therapeutic services.
Awareness Programs
Educating children, parents, school staff, and the public about the needs of children with disabilities, promoting modifications and inclusion so these children can grow with dignity, self confidence, and less difficulties.
Swim Program

A nurturing swim program designed for children with special needs or typical abilities ages 6mo to adults.
Community Engagement
Promoting inclusive activities and support in local communities.
